Choose a data format

Tables and JSON are two ways to represent the same reaction data. Choose one to suit your sources and workflow; do not submit duplicate copies. Both follow the same provenance, quality and review requirements.

Tabular data specification · Excel / CSV

For manual curation or existing spreadsheets. Each row records an ordinary experiment, with quantity and unit in one cell. Download a template or map the columns of your own table.

Procedures and workup can remain as text; structured one-pot steps are not required.

iSynth data specification

For software or AI extraction. Fields are organized as objects, with separate values and units. Use basic fields for ordinary reactions; add stages, repeated additions or stage-specific results when needed.

Software can also produce tables. Choose JSON for the structure you need, regardless of who prepares the data.

Requirements for both formats

Sources and experimental facts: Preserve reported structures, names, quantities, units and results without forcing unit conversion. Leave unreported table cells blank and omit unreported JSON fields. Do not use zero for unknowns or invent procedures or yields.
Dataset and author information: Use a short title describing the transformation and a description covering the study and data scope. Preserve source author names and order; leave unknown affiliations, emails and correspondence blank. Use the license that covers these data; CC BY 4.0 is the default for data the contributor is authorized to license. Missing license information does not imply Proprietary, and an article or software license does not automatically cover the data.
Source completeness and review: Provide a verifiable publication or original record and retain source files. One source may include multiple files; transport limits do not require separate datasets. Save a draft, check parsed results, sources and authors, then submit for review.

How to submit prepared data

The website currently accepts CSV / Excel. JSON defines the reaction record structure. For programmatic submission, write each JSON record into the reaction_record column of a CSV, then follow the integration guide to upload it. Data format and access through the website, API or MCP are separate choices.
